We, the Mayors of 80% of Catalan Municipalities want to express solidarity with our colleagues who have been deprived of freedom either by imprisonment, the vice president, 7 counselors and 2 civil leaders, or by order of detention, the President of Catalonia and 4 counselors too.

Spanish state has decided to imprison through the Spanish National Court by politically decision to arrest several democratically elected people just to make a democratic referendum and giving Catalan People the opportunity to decide their own future.

As result of this referendum more than 2 million people decided Yes. Yes to be an independent state. Yes to be a new democratic an independent state in Europe, new Republic in the world. And we have done it peacefully and democratically.

Nonetheless, Spain shows that it has a null desire for dialogue. The dialogue for Spanish government as we have seen it (!!) is jailing civil leaders and the legitimate representatives of the government of Catalonia.

Due to that, as Mayors as democrats we demand the immediate release of the 10 political prisoners and vigorously condemn the political persecution of ideas and their legitimate representatives.

So… What is the currently situation in Catalonia?

The situation is that we are facing the attack of the Spanish state government on all democratic, individual and collective freedoms, as consequence, we are all here to show all our solidarity and commitment with the legitimate government that emerged from the polls on 27th September, in 2015. For this reason, Catalan Local Authorities, we shall only recognize the legitimate Catalan government, and his president, Carles Puigdemont.

Catalonia has a dream deeply rooted in the democratic referendum which took place on last 1st of October. However, Spain has buried democracy and freedom, using courts instead of politics and using violence instead of political ways.

To defend the unity of Spain, the Spanish state has abolished democracy using courts and using force. Many of websites have been censored, political charges have been imprisoned, violence has been used to stop free voting processes... transforming the Spanish institutions into weapons of repression and NOT into instruments for democracy.

After the application of article 155... Today in Catalonia, Rajoy’s political party, which only obtains 8% of the votes in the Parliament of Catalonia and it only has 11 deputies out of 135, wants to rule Catalonia.

We are not a colony anymore!

The attitude of the Spanish state, rather than judicial, is a dictatorial attitude and all European Institution should listen to Catalonia's call for democracy.

In other words, Spain’s democracy is nowadays a failed democracy. So, we are here today to make a call to Europe and to the Peoples of the world to save democracy in Catalonia, to save democracy in Europe.

So, what I am telling today, even though we face enormous difficulties this is not just a dream of freedom for Catalonia we are here to make it real and to defend the new Catalan Republic which was born on 27th October after the vote in the Parlament of Catalonia.

Finally, We want send a message to all Catalan citizens and all the European citizens as Mayors that our commitment has been and will be giving the voice to the people as we did on the 1st of October.

We are all here to say, clearly and solemnly We are Catalans and We are committed decided to be free and to consolidate our democratic will into the new democratic Republic of Catalonia.

Nosaltres, els Alcaldes del 80% dels municipis catalans volem expressar solidaritat amb els nostres col·legues que han estat privats de llibertat ja sigui per empresonament, el vicepresident, 7 consellers i dos líders civils, o per ordre de detenció, el president de Catalunya i 4 consellers més.

L'Estat espanyol ha decidit empresonar a través de la Cort Nacional a diversos ciutadans democràticament elegits per fer un referèndum democràtic i donar a la gent catalana l'oportunitat de decidir el seu propi futur.

Com a resultat d'aquest referèndum més de 2 milions de persones han decidit Sí. Sí a ser un estat independent. Sí a ser un nou estat democràtic i independent a Europa, una nova República al món. I ho hem fet de forma pacífica i democràtica.

No obstant això, Espanya demostra que té un nul desig de diàleg. El diàleg per al govern espanyol tal com l'hem vist (!!) és empresonar líders civils i els representants legítims de la Generalitat de Catalunya.

Per tant, com a alcaldes, com a demòcrates exigim l'alliberament immediat dels 10 presos polítics i condemnem vigorosament la persecució política de les idees i els seus representants legítims.

Així que ... Quina és la situació actual a Catalunya?

La situació és que estem davant l'atac del govern estatal a totes les llibertats democràtiques, individuals i col·lectives, com a conseqüència, estem aquí per demostrar tota la nostra solidaritat i compromís amb el govern legítim que va sorgir de les enquestes el 27 de setembre de 2015. Per aquest motiu, les autoritats locals catalanes, només reconeixerem el govern legítim de Catalunya, i el seu president és Carles Puigdemont.

Catalunya té un somni profundament arrelat al referèndum democràtic que va tenir lloc el passat dia 1 d'octubre. No obstant això, Espanya ha enterrat la democràcia i la llibertat, utilitzant jutjats en comptes de política i usant violència en comptes de fer política.

Per defensar la unitat d'Espanya, l'Estat espanyol ha abolit la democràcia mitjançant els tribunals i l'ús de la força. S'han censurat molts llocs web, s'han empresonat càrrecs polítics, s'ha utilitzat la violència per frenar els processos de votació gratuïts ... transformant les institucions espanyoles en armes de repressió i NO en instruments de democràcia.

Després de l'aplicació de l'article 155 ... Avui a Catalunya, el partit polític de Rajoy, que només obté el 8% dels vots al Parlament de Catalunya i només té 11 diputats de 135, vol governar Catalunya.

Ja no som una colònia!

L'actitud de l'Estat espanyol, més que judicial, és una actitud dictatorial i tota institució europea hauria d'escoltar la crida a la democràcia de Catalunya.

En altres paraules, la democràcia espanyola avui en dia és una democràcia fracassada. Per això, estem aquí avui per fer una crida a Europa i als Pobles del món per salvar la democràcia a Catalunya, per salvar la democràcia a Europa.

Així doncs, tot i que tenim grans dificultats, no només tenim un somni de llibertat per a Catalunya que estem aquí per fer-lo real i per defensar la nova República Catalana que va néixer el 27 d'octubre després de la votació al Parlament de Catalunya

Finalment, com a alcaldes volem enviar un missatge a tota la ciutadania catalana i tota la ciutadania europea. Ens comprometem a donar veu a la gent com vam fer l'1 d'octubre.

Tots estem aquí per dir, de forma clara i solemne Som catalans i decidits a ser lliures i consolidar la nostra voluntat democràtica en la nova República democràtica de Catalunya.
